Maasvlakte 2 sea defence - Port of Rotterdam

For the construction of the second Maasvlakte in Rotterdam, Bontrup supplied more than 4 million tons of aggregates for the hard seawall. The project was carried out by the PUMA consortium (Boskalis & Van Oord) for the Port of Rotterdam Authority.

Bontrup worked closely with PUMA to determine the best combination of quarries, logistics and design early on. The products supplied were used to construct a dynamc stone 'beach', which, combined with 40 ton blocks, formed an innovative and robust sea defence.

Thanks to the energy-neutral crushing process at Bremanger Quarry and the deployment of Bontrups large self-unloading bulk carriers of up to 100,000 DWT capacity, an efficient, reliable and sustainable delivery was achieved.
