Senegal - Development of the Sangomar field

Van Oord contracted Bontrup Logistics to supply approximately 250,000 tons of 1-5" offshore grade for the development of the Sangomar field in Senegal.

In the process, the self-unloading bulk carrier mv Bontrup Pearl acted as a Floating Transfer Station in Dakar Bay in Senegal. Via Supramax vessels of 50,000-60,000 DWT size, the Bontrup Pearl was continuously fed with new rock from Bremanger Quarry. The offshore grades were transferred to the Bontrup Pearl by cranes via a ship-to-ship operation, while Van Oord's fallpipe vessel, the Stornes, carried out its installation work some 100 km away.

From the Bontrup Pearl, the rock was then transferred directly to the Stornes via conveyor belt, which manoeuvred under the unloading belt using its dynamic positioning systems.

A continuous supply of rock materials was essential to avoid downtime. Great care was taken to accurately plan and coordinate the sailing schedules, utilizing ROC(Rehearsal of Concept) drills. Thanks to the intensive cooperation between Bontrup Logistics and Van Oord, both during preparation and during execution, the project was completed on time and to the full satisfaction of all involved.
