Matarbari port development - Bangladesh

For the development of the Matarbari power plant in Bangladesh new port structures were required. Bontrup supplied over 700,000 tons of rock armour in various grades over two seasons. The material was used to construct the breakwater, consisting of a quarry run core with several layers of armourstone up to 3 tons in weight.

The delivery took place in close cooperation with Penta-Ocean Construction Company. The stone was produced at Stevin Rock Quarry and shipped from Mina Saqr Port in Ras al Khaimah (UAE).

On site, the rock was transferred via self-unloading gantry crane vessels to contractor floating equipment. The vessel was moored to a heavy-duty buoy, moving with the strong tidal current in the work area. The ship-to-ship operation was performed smoothly, also thanks to the special rock spider grabs developed by Bontrup .
