Hanzelijn – delivery of Bestone railway ballast

For the construction of the Hanzelijn, the approximately 50 km long railway connection between Lelystad and Zwolle, Bontrup supplied more than 250,000 tons of railway ballast to HanzaRailTeam, a consortium including StruktonRail and VolkerRail.

The Hanzelijn is an important link in the Dutch railway network and places high demands on the stability and durability of the track construction.

The rail ballast was produced from Bestone® rock. Approximately 5,000 tons of rail ballast were transported daily to the project by inland vessels. In addition, Bontrup supplied more than 100,000 tons of foundation material (0-45 mm) and unbound path paving material (0-8 mm) from Graniet Import Benelux.
