Container terminals Port of Antwerp

Commissioned by Willemen Group, Bontrup supplied over 1 million tons of crushed stone with grades like 0/56 (sub-base), for the foundations of several container terminals in the port of Antwerp. The sub-base, originating from Bremanger Quarry in Norway, was transported to Antwerp by large self-unloading belt carriers. Due to the large depth at the quays, the stone could be delivered from the ship to project site and incorporated directly into the foundation. The Bremanger stone (Bestone®) is characterized by its high strength, wear resistance and homogeneity. Thanks to the continuous grading, optimum compaction is achieved. Bremanger sub-base has been used in both unbound and (cement) bound foundations.
