Barbados – Repair hurricane damage port of Bridgetown

On July 1, 2024, Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Barbados. The Category 5 hurricane caused severe damage and destroyed Bridgetown's fishing port. More than 240 vessels were lost. A repair plan was commissioned by the Barbados government to restore the devastated breakwater. This required large quantities of heavy armour rock on short notice.

Commissioned by contractor CO Willams, Bontrup Logistics delivered approximately 40,000 tons of armourstone. The material was produced in a very short time by Larvik Rock Armour, in four different grades from 300/1000kg to 10-13ton and then shipped by a self-loading and self-unloading bulk carrier equipped with special rock spider grabs.

Because heavy equipment was lacking to incorporate the stone into the new breakwater on site, large dump trucks and a crane were brought on the same ship and were the first to be put ashore.

Thanks to the rapid delivery of custom-made armour rock, flexible logistics, and the integrated approach by Bontrup Logistics, the restoration of the fishing port in Barbados could be effectively supported.
