Greenbase®

Substitute for scarce materials

Greenbase® originates from our quarries Bremanger Quarry in Norway and Glensanda Quarry in Scotland. Through our innovative production process at Graniet Import Amsterdam, we separate the finest crushed and washed material from the remaining products. This washed out material is then settled and dewatered using a filter press.

Homogeneous and clean

Greenbase® is a very homogeneous product. The grain size distribution is continuous and consists of finely crushed particles. The product has the strength of sand and is impermeable like compacted clay. Its settlement is minimal. Greenbase® is clean soil and classifies in the cleanest category according to the 'Besluit Bodemkwaliteit' (Dutch Decree on Soil Quality). It can be installed freely both on land and in water. The product is certified in accordance with BRL9321 and is supplied under NL BSB certificate.

Fully recyclable
GreenBase® forms an excellent substrate for vegetation (i.c.w. organic top soil). It is circular and sustainable because it replaces scarce primary materials such as sand and clay. In addition, GreenBase® can be completely re-won and re-used. It cannot be more sustainable.

Flood defenses
The unique combination of strength and impermeability makes Greenbase® highly suitable for application in virtually all functional components of a flood defense system (Deltares, 2019). The material is load-bearing and can be constructed into stable steep slopes. Dike reinforcement and support berms are among the possibilities. Its low permeability makes it an ideal material for preventing piping and seepage. Using Greenbase® directly contributes to making the Netherlands safe from high water.

Land reclamation and embankment
Greenbase® is suitable for reclamations and structural embankment fills in a range of applications: under highways, behind quay walls and to raise building plots. This makes it a functional alternative to general sand: clean, homogeneous and with very little settlement.

Sealing solutions
Because of its very low permeability, Greenbase® is ideal as a mineral sealant for soils where leakage may be a problem. Where clay forms large cracks when it dries out, Greenbase® retains its tight packing. Greenbase® has been used successfully in sealing leaking channels and water streams and making liquid-tight seals in tank pits.

Extensive tests in accordance with CUR33 have shown that the material can be used for the top and bottom sealing of landfills without the addition of bentonite.
