Inland shipping - the sustainable link in our logistics chain
From Graniet Import Benelux and Antwerp Stone Terminal 90% of all materials are delivered by inland barging. Transport by inland waterways enables just-in-time (JIT) delivery, with the following advantages:
- Certainty of supply
- No extra storage or double handling
- Lowest footprint and favorable MKI (Dutch Environmental Cost Indicator) value
- Direct delivery to concrete plants, asphalt plants and project sites
- Deployment of special ships with spuds where needed

Clean fleet - modern technology for low emissions
Together with our partner Amer Shipping, we are investing in a modern, sustainable barge fleet. More and more ships are equipped with:
- Stage V engines
- Aftertreatment (SCR/AdBlue).
- Propeller shaft generators
- Battery Storage
- Use of waste heat on board
In 2024, ms. Glensanda and ms. Karel Doorman were completely overhauled and modernized - together with ms. Bremanger, these ships achieved the Green Award Gold certification. Customers also have the option of sailing on HVO100 biodiesel, which reduces the footprint (MKI) even further.
Accessibility and flexibility
Not every project site is accessible to large ships. Therefore, in addition to new tonnage, we also invest in modernizing smaller vessels so that we can reach any location - from large terminals to shallow project ports.
Robust and future-oriented logistics chain
With our own inland barges, supplemented by Amer Shipping's fleet, Bontrup transports approximately 5 million tons annually via inland shipping. We deliver quickly, cleanly and reliably, exactly when the project needs it.
