For many years, Bontrup fine-grained products as clay substitutes and as thinning agents for the ceramic industry. The products come from the highly homogeneous quarries in Bremanger (Norway) and Glensanda (Scotland) and are crushed and screened in a carefully controlled process at the terminals in Amsterdam (GIB) and Antwerp (AST). Thanks to their unique mineral composition, consistent properties, and low sulfur and organic matter content, the products are ideal for making bricks and roof tiles.
Bontrup collaborates closely with TCKI, the Dutch Technical Center for the Ceramic Industry. Extensive TCKI research has shown that the products can serve as replacements for scarce primary clays and sands, with comparable technical performance and stable firing colors.
