Senegal - Development of Sangomar field

Van Oord contracted BONTRUP Logistics to deliver about 250.000 tonnes of 1-5” rock product to the Bay of Dakar for the rock installation performed by Van Oord’s flexible fallpipe vessel Stornes in relation to the development of the Sangomar field in Senegal.

BONTRUP Logistics’s vessel BONTRUP Pearl acted as an offshore rock terminal moored in the Bay of Dakar receiving the rock from BONTRUP’s Bremanger Quarry in Norway via Supramax vessels in the 50,000 to 60,000t DWT range.

Via ship-to-ship operations the product was loaded onto BONTRUP Pearl while the Stornes was performing her installation works in the field about 100 km away.

BONTRUP Pearl in turn transshipped the rock product via belt into FFPV Stornes while the Stornes was on dynamic positioning under the discharge belt.

A continuous supply of rock material was critical to avoid standby time of the equipment and therefore great care was taken by BONTRUP Logistics in scheduling the vessels.

The teams at BONTRUP Logistics and Van Oord worked closely together on planning and preparation prior to the start of the project. Close cooperation and coordination on site during the execution of the project has resulted in the completion of the project within the set time frame and satisfaction of all parties involved.
